Questions to Ministers

Will the Prime Minister and Minister of Finance say why he has waited so long to make a move against his UDP Mayor Zenaida Moya, although Councillor Mark King had revealed the corruption within City Hall from as far back as August 2008, more than a year ago? And would the Prime Minister please say whether the Mayor will answer for her actions, or others will be name as scapegoats to preserve the faltering credibility of the UDP?

Would the Prime Minister and Minister of Finance please say when the cost of fuel at the pumps will start going down, since he promised a reduction in pump prices more than two months ago? And would the Minister of Finance say when he will reduce GOB’s take on fuel to alleviate the suffering of Belizeans?

Would the honourable Minister of Works please say when the people of the south can expect a new bridge at the Kendall crossing, since it has been more than two years and the crossing keeps getting washed out every time there are heavy rains? Would the Minister explain why the bridge at Kendall is not considered a priority, although residents of the south would be completely cut off from the rest of the country is there is any natural disaster this year? And finally, would the Minister of Works please say if any attention will be paid to the Middlesex Bridge, which is also completely covered by water every time there is rain?

Would the Minister of Works further say if there is any comprehensive plan underway to assess bridges across the country, since there have been major complaints of structural damage to the Hawksworth Bridge in the Cayo District?

Would the Minister of Education please say when he will stop posturing and start paying serious attention to the critical needs of schools and students throughout the country? Would the Minister be able to give a timeframe for the completion of the school in San Isidro in the Toledo District? Would the Minister be able to say when the school in Mahogany Heights will be adequately furnished to serve the needs of students? Would the Minister of Education be able to say when he will provide new teachers for schools in Benque and Succotz, since those he fired for political reasons have not been replaced and there is serious overcrowding?

Would the Minister of Education further say what educational assistance the students in the south can expect, since during the previous administration the HANDS Foundation used to pay for school fees and now those students need urgent help?

Would the Minister of Health please comment on the Commission of Inquiry at the KHMH, since there has been nothing said since its supposed inception two months ago? And could the Minister of Health further comment on all the deaths in the public health system lately amidst allegations of negligence and lack of basic medical supplies?

And would the Minister of Health be able to provide the details of the alleged $1.6 million worth of medical supplies recently? Would the Minister be able to say if the bid for the supply of the equipment was put out to tender, or if it was approved by the Contractor-General?

Would the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Natural Resources say what is the status of the works at the Krooman Lagoon Reserve, since the understanding of Belizeans was that the works had been stopped but development is still very much underway?

Would the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Lands also explain the lands in Placencia which have been placed in the name of Crimson Development and which are now being parceled off and sold? Would the DPM and Minister of Natural Resources confirm or deny rumours that the land which was given to Crimson Develoment lies within a natural reserve?

And finally, would the Minister of Natural Resources please say when his Ministry will release the hold on leases issued in the Belama Phase 4 area, since it has been almost two years and any investigation into the validity of those leases must surely have been concluded?
