RAY GILBERT LIGHTBURN – RIP

Ray Lightburn 2Ray Lightburn, a former PUP Standard Bearer in the 1998 general elections, a former editor/manager of the Belize Times and a considered nationalist departed this life on Wednesday, October 2009.

Ray, as he was affectionately known, was the victim of a traffic accident on the Northern Highway in the vicinity of the Los Lagos community.

Ray was an outstanding union leader in the 1960s. He was an avid supporter of the George Price movement to bring Independence to Belize. He was a talented chef and oversaw the preparation of meals for many dignitaries to our shores. He was a former Chairman of the water company. He was also an eloquent speaker and a gifted writer. Only last month he published a book titled –  ‘Nothing to Lose.’

The People’s United Party and staff of the Belize Times offer our heartfelt condolences to his family and three children.
