The Excellence C.C. won Game 1 of the Champion of Champions series to decide a true national champion, spanking Sunrise C.C. of Lord’s Bank 248-73 in Double Head Cabbage last Saturday. The series will decide the ultimate winner of the Harrison Parks Cup for the 2009 season.
Excellence batted first, led by Percy Flowers who scored 60 runs before he was caught out. Ian Broaster batted another 54 runs before Sunrise captain Edison Parks bowled him out. Kenny Broaster followed, batting 19 runs before he was caught out and veteran Sylbert Martinez hit another 19 runs to remain not out. Orson Flowers batted 8 runs before he was run out; Burk Howard hit 7 runs before he was caught, and Edison Parks took the next 2 wickets for 6 runs, while John Flowers took another wicket for zero runs. With 79 extras, the Excellence batsmen totaled 248 runs before their last wicket fell.
Sunrise found themselves batting on a sticky wicket with opening batsman Alburn Rivero scoring a paltry 9 runs before he was caught out. Kenny Broaster dismissed the next batsman for 7 runs and went on to take 3 more wickets for 3 runs. Edison Parks managed 14 runs before Percy Flowers bowled him out, while John Flowers tallied 14 runs before Marlon Nicholas bowled him out. Tyrone Bood scored 12 runs before he was stumped. The Sunrise eleven had scored only 79 runs before their last wicket fell.
Game 2 of the series is set for Saturday, October 24, at the Lords Bank Oval.
