Dear Editor:

So much for the lies that the expropriation of BTL would result in lower rates because it is now very clear that the government is trying to destroy Smart so they can either RAISE or MAINTAIN BTL’s high rates..

So now that it is clear that the goal is to exterminate SMART the company with the lowest rates, why would a resulting monopolistic BTL later go on to lower rates?

And to pull the plug so suddenly on an existing agreement with another telecommunications company without giving consideration to the 90,000 businesses and customers of SMART who will be affected? What kind of nonsense is that?

That is the very reason doing business in Belize is so difficult. Through no fault of your own, your business goes to hell – first the frequent and unannounced blackouts when you are trying to sell air-conditioned rooms at top dollar; then the uncontrolled power surges that blow out your expensive equipment which you have to try to fix over holidays when no one is available to work, then we have the government fighting with everybody, including the telecommunications industry whereby they cut off the phone system so you can’t get your bookings … that nonsense is just plain dumb.

While the Min. of Foreign Affairs is in Houston begging people to invest in Belize, the government back home is on a single-focus mission to destroy existing private enterprise in the name of…(insert your favorite excuse here).

God help my precious Belize! We are being governed by the brain dead.

I am really vex with Mr. Barrow decisions (I would not title him Honourable-certainly not a representative of Belizeans citizenry). His actions clearly shows that BTL (New Board of Directors-Barrow: son, Barrow comrade: Esquivel, Barrow ex-wife: Lios, Barrow friend: Vasquez) ……cannot play fairly. They are not affecting only SMART, but business and customers. I am personally affected since I am having difficulty reaching my family in Belize…I believe that Barrow will ultimately cause more blood shed…On February 2 2009, there was the riot of the cane farmers whereby Barrow did not want to hear the voices of the cane farmers, which resulted with a dead person……I believe that Belizeans should unite and clearly make Mr. Barrow know that they are getting tired of his unjustified actions. Why isn’t the PUC doing anything serious? (Dean Barrow nephew member of PUC?). Barrow and the ministers have money to pay the high rated of BTL but not the average Belizeans that are struggling everyday because of the economic recession….

Well, indeed this is nonsense concerning the BTL trying to destroy and to greed customers of smart. I strongly believe that all of us Belizeans made a huge mistake by changing our Governent. All this is happening because of “Borrows”. Therefore i would just like to tell all those that are involve not to take or make things for granted what goes around ……….comes around.
