BELIZE CITY, Feb. 2, 2010.
Fernando Elijio, 35, a plumber of #4414 Morning Glory Street who allegedly robbed two women at gun point, was charged with 2 counts of robbery when he appeared yesterday in the #6 Magistrate’s Court. Elijio pled not guilty to the charges. Magistrate Sharon Fraser explained to him that the Court could not offer him bail because the offences were committed with a firearm. She remanded him into custody until March 22.
The first robbery occurred at around 7:00pm on Wednesday, January 27. Monica Archer, 21, a sales clerk reported to the Police that she was walking on St. Thomas Street when she was approached by a man on a bicycle who pointed a firearm at her. She said the man stole her brown pocketbook which contained two exercise books.
The second robbery occurred about 20 minutes later. Virginia Mendez, 41, an office manager, reported to the Police that she was walking by Farmer’s Market on Central American Boulevard talking on her cell phone when she was approached by a man on a bicycle. Mendez said the man pointed a firearm at her and stole her silver chain with gold cross medal.
The Police who were in the area were alerted and they began to pursue the suspect who jumped into the river to try and escape, but was not successful.
