A jury of 9 women and 3 men deliberated for about 4½ hours yesterday in the Court of Justice Troadio Gonzalez before it found Aaron King, 23 and Llewelyn Williams, 25, not guilty of the murder of Russian national Alexi Goloubev, 34, who was stabbed multiple times on December 31, 2005. Goloubev’s partly decomposed body was found in his apartment in King’s Park by Pamela Pyne on January 2, 2006. Pyne said he was lying face down and there were flies were all over his body which had already began to swell.
Dr. Hugh Sanchez who did a post mortem examination the following day, testified that there were 15 stab wounds to Goloubev’s body and he died from multiple stab wounds, particularly the one that penetrated his brain. King allegedly gave Police a confession statement which he did not sign. Williams allegedly gave Police an oral confession in which he implicated King as the person who stabbed and killed Goloubev. Both statements were admitted as evidence after a voire dire was held to determine their admissibility.
Also, a knife with a broken point which the Police believed was the murder weapon and which the Police testified that King led them to where it was hidden in a grassy area, was admitted as exhibit after a voire dire was held to determine whether it should be admitted. Williams gave a statement from the dock in which he denied he was involved in the incident.
King took the witness stand and testified that Police gave him a statement to sign but he did not sign it and it was the Police who took him to a grassy area on a street and pointed to a spot and wanted him to pick up a knife but he refused. King was represented by Michael Peyrefitte while Williams was represented by attorney Ellis Arnold.
Crown Counsel Yohhahnseh Cave represented the prosecution.
