The past week has been a bloody one, leaving a number of families once again grieving over their loved one senselessly killing in the ongoing urban warfare. Last Thursday it extended all the way to Ladyville where the family of Anthony Matura, 18, has been trying to decipher why anyone wanted him dead.
The youth had just alighted a bus on the Northern Highway in which he travelled from Belize City and was passing in front of a Chinese shop heading toward Poinsetta Street when someone sneaked up to him from behind. Startled, Matura tried to run, but his attacker caught up to him before he could flee and delivered a fatal stab to the left side of his chest before running off undetected. Matura stumbled onto Poinsetta Street and collapsed in front of a church where he died.
Described as a quiet young man who accompanied his father everyday to Belize City, Matura was the brother of Glenford Matura, who was shot dead just a few months ago on March 10. While it has not yet been confirmed, Police have a strong belief that the younger Matura’s death was the result of gang rivalry. They have also appealed to the public to assist them in solving the homicide. The day after the killing Ladyville Police revisited the crime scene and discovered what they believe to be the murder weapon, a knife, discarded not far from where Matura’s body was found.

The poor, foolish, young Belizeans are slaughtering each other in the streets and the real criminals (GOB) are living in the lap of luxury; driving their 200K SUVs, drinking 600 bottle of Blue Label, traveling first class all over the world to do absolutely nothing but party at our expense and the list goes on.
When will our young Belizeans wake up and realize their behavior is exactly what the GOB love? They keep killing each other; the public eye keeps going to the out of control crime situation and the politicians pillaging goes practically unnoticed and only noticed when it is too late.
They say when the right person(s) who deserve the lashing get the lashing the misbehaving usually subsides, right now the poor youths are getting the lashing….but as they say, tables turn eventually on a matter of time.
