There were some expressions of shock and surprise this morning when accused rogue cop mastermind, Detective Constable Jermaine Mangar, along with co defendant Ernie Miranda, appeared in Magistrates Court No. 1 for the continuation of their case. The Police Prosecutor Sergeant Egbert Castillo requested yet another adjournment due to the fact that the 3rd co-defendant, Jermaine Palacio did not appear in court.
This surprising announcement provoked confusion which was replaced by surprise when Chief Magistrate Margaret Mckenzie informed the court that the conspiracy charges against Jermaine Palacio had been quietly dropped two weeks ago on July 16th. Apparently none of the defendants, their attorneys or the media had been made aware of this development.
Magistrate Mckenzie agreed to the adjournment and the case is to return to court on August 26th.
The only conclusion that can be drawn from this revelation is that Palacio has copped a deal and will now testify on behalf of the prosecution. Speculation is that his no-show performance today means that he is reluctant to do so.
