Murder occurred on eve of Women’s Month

A bouquet of flowers given to Christie Alexandra Carrasco on Valentine’s Day by her common-law husband, Osmar Alex Sabido, remains inside what was their home in the San Lorenzo Housing Site in Orange Walk Town. On the card, Sabido tells Christie how much he loves her, in fact, he refers to her as the love of his life.

But was it love or obsession, and was Sabido so obsessed with Christie that he ended her life on Monday, February 28th, night?  The young mother was stabbed dead.  Neighbors, who witnessed the attack, said it unfolded on the open view in the front yard.

Around 8:30pm that night, Christie called her father, Homer, to tell him that Sabido had threatened to burn down their house with both of them inside. Her father told her to pass and pick him up, and warned her not to go home alone.

Unfortunately Christie didn’t follow the advice, and she drove home without passing for her father. Reports are that upon arriving home, Sabido was there already and the couple immediately got into a conflict.  The quarreling turned into a physical attack, followed by a horrific tragedy.

Sabido’s father told us that at exactly 8:28pm, which is before Christie arrived home, his son called home to tell them that he intended to burn down the house Christie and with him inside. They immediately called the Police but by the time the authorities arrived, it was too late.

It is believed that during the assault, Sabido pulled a knife and attacked Christie, inflicting stab wounds.  Christie ran through the door, and unto the front yard.  Neighbors who heard her loud screams dashed outside to aid her, but Sabido got to her first.  He pushed her to the ground, and inflicted even more stabs.  Just then the Police arrived, and were then able to detain him.

Christie had been stabbed once to the leg and hand and twice to the heart.  She died as she was rushed to the Northern Regional Hospital.

There is even more evidence that the murder was premeditated.  Today the house still has the strong scent of gasoline and Clorox. Small pools of the mixture is visible all over the house and white patches on the sofa and inside the bedroom of Christie’s 2 year old daughter indicate that Sabido’s evil intention was real.

But while his intent is clear, the motive remains unknown.  Christie’s family says they were close to her, and there were no telling signs that she was in an abusive relationship. The neighbors say that while in the past they heard the couple quarreling, it didn’t get to the point that sound an alarm.

25 year old Osmar Sabido appeared at the Orange Walk Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday where he was formally charged for the crime of Murder.  When the charge was read to him, Sabido claimed that he did not understand it, but appeared unmoved when the Magistrate explained that since the charge was an indictable one no plea would be taken from him. Sabido was remanded to prison until his next court date, scheduled for April 6th, 2011.
