Jesus Ayuso, 25, a mason of #5 Farmer’s Market, was sentenced to 18 months by Chief Magistrate Ann Marie Smith on Monday, October 31 after he pleaded guilty to causing a wound to his roommate, Honduran national, Erica Flores.

Flores, a pizza vendor, appeared in court and said that around 11:47 p.m. on Thursday, October 27, she and Ayuso had an argument over rent money she owed. She said she told Ayuso that she was having problems raising the money and she was going to pay him little by little but Ayuso would not understand.

She said that at one time Ayuso held on to her bicycle and prevented her that day from selling pizza and making money.

She said Ayuso became angry when she could not pay him any rent money and he punched her in the face and chest that pushed her against a concrete wall which caused a wound to the back of her head.

After Flores reported the incident to the police, she was given a medico-legal form and she was taken to Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. The doctor who examined her classified her injury as wounding.

Before she sentenced Ayuso, Chief Magistrate Smith chastised him for beating a woman and ordered him to apologize to Flores.

After he apologized, Chief Magistrate Smith surprised him by giving him the custodial sentence.
