Cruz Allen, 24, a laborer of #7 Water Lane, was charged with burglary and handling stolen goods when he appeared in the #1 Magistrate’s Court on Monday, October 31. Allen pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor objected to bail on the grounds that the offences are of a serious nature and the maximum penalty for burglary is 10 years. He also objected to bail on the grounds that the complainant, Daniel Fabro, caught the defendant in the act and there is the likelihood that if granted bail, the defendant might interfere with Fabro.
Because Allen has a conviction for handling stolen goods, Chief Magistrate Ann Marie Smith upheld the objection and remanded Allen into custody until December 1.
The incident occurred around 6 a.m. on Thursday, October 27.
Fabro, the owner of Fabro Glass Limited, located on Victoria Street, reported to the police that when he checked on his business place he found Allen inside it and detained him until the police arrived and took him into custody.
The police reported that they recovered all the stolen items from outside of the building.
The items included one 19 inch Emmerson brand television, one JVC stereo with speakers, one Olympus digital brand camera, one pair of tennis shoes and one bag.
The total value of the items was $2,410.
