Leon Martin, 28, charged with damage to property for a window sill that has a value of $50.00, was sentenced to 2 years by #4 Magistrate Roberto Ordonez after he pleaded guilty to the charge.
It was Martin’s second conviction for a similar offence.
The incident occurred around 12:35 p.m. on Thursday, November 3. Barbara Bennett, a resident of Casaurina Street, who is Martin’s foster mother, reported to the police that she and her daughter, Ella Martin, were at home when Martin arrived and an argument began between him and his sister.
She said the argument led to a physical struggle between Martin and his sister and during the struggle he damaged the window sill.
Martin was also charged with using threatening words to his sister but he pleaded not guilty to that charge. According to the allegation, Martin threatened to burst his sister’s throat.
For the charge of using threatening words, the case was adjourned until December 13.

According to the news I have just read regarding Leon Martin , the charge of damaging the window sill is separate from that of threatening his sister . Therefore the sentencing of two years for damaging a window sill is rather harsh . The young man should have been given the opportunity of paying a fine , whatever the cost of repairs is instead of being sentenced to two years in prison . I wonder how that magistrate would feel if he would be imprisoned for something of that nature as opposed to paying a fine .
