SJC boys lead basketball playoffs

The St. John’s College leads the Central Secondary School Sports Association (CSSSA) basketball championship finals, following victories in the playoffs and semifinals at the Belize City Center on Monday, December 5.

The St. John’s College boys entered the finals by eliminating the Nazarene High School boys 62-57 in Monday’s semifinals. It was touch and go, as the Nazarene boys were leading 26-21 at the half and were still up at the end of the 3rd quarter. But in the 4th, their defense slacked off, allowing SJC to take over and lead to the final buzzer.

Devin Daly led SJC with 24 points, while Tarique Middleton had 10 points. Nazarene’s Alejandro Baptist scored 20 points.

The SJC boys reached semifinals by blowing out the Canaan 7th Day Adventist High School boys 99-42 last Thursday playoffs. Tarique Middleton and Devin Daly scored 20 points each, while Kyle Middleton added 18 points. The SJC boys led 11-12 in the 1st quarter and 33-26 at the half. By the 3rd quarter, they opened a 70-28 point-spread and stretched it even further to 99-42 all the way to the final buzzer.
