The Sadie Vernon Technical High School boys have won the high school basketball championship for the second year in a row, adding a 3rd trophy title to their collection in just four years.
The Belize City champs defeated the island boys 82-68. Kachief Thomas led the team for a 22-20 lead in the 1st quarter. He scored 27 points in the game. MVP Andrew Ortiz added 20 points and grabbed 13 boards, while Roderick Williams scored 15 points. At the half, Sadie Vernon led 48-36 and by the time the 3rd quarter ended, the lead was 70-53.
Despite the island boys’ attempts to clamp down on the defense, Sadie Vernon continued hammering the board, adding 12 more points to which their opponents couldn’t catch up to in time. At the sound of the final buzzer, the game ended 82-68 for a Sadie Vernon win.
San Pedro High School principal Emil Vasquez presented team trophies and individual medals to the champions, 2nd and 3rd place winners and the Most Valuable Player award to Sadie Vernon’s Andrew Ortiz.
3rd place was won by Belmopan Comprehensive who defeated the Ecumenical boys 58-37.
